How ChatGPT, Perplexity & Google AI decide which businesses to recommend

When someone asks an AI engine for a recommendation, the engine doesn't rank pages — it resolves entities. Four things decide whose name appears in the answer:

  1. Entity recognition. The engine checks whether your business exists as a distinct, verifiable entity — in its training data, in Wikidata, in structured data across the web. No entity, no citation.
  2. Corroboration. Engines weight claims they can verify across independent sources: trade directories, press, review platforms, registries. One self-published claim counts for little; the same fact across five sources becomes citable truth.
  3. Recency. Perplexity and AI Mode retrieve live results and favour recently-updated, clearly-dated content. A page reviewed quarterly beats a page written once.
  4. Answer-shaped content. Engines lift content that already answers the question — direct statements, FAQ structures, tables. Prose that buries the answer doesn't get cited even when correct.

Yes — GSDP figures come from State Economic Surveys and RBI state-finance data (labelled "FY25 est." where states haven't published finals), MSME counts from Udyam registrations, and industry structure from District Industries Centre data. Every page shows its sources in the trust block at the bottom, along with its last-reviewed date. If you spot a newer figure, tell me and I'll update the page — that freshness loop is itself part of the GEO playbook.

What's the difference between SEO, GEO, and AI Search Optimization?

SEO earns rankings in Google's classic results through technical health, content, and authority. GEO (generative engine optimization) earns citations in AI assistants — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini — through entity construction and corroborated data.
